What is International Cat Day?

August 8th was declared International Day of Cats by the International Fund for Animal Welfare in 2002. The event aims to raise awareness of the ever rising population of stray and feral pets, in attempts to encourage people to adopt a feline friend. Cats are amazing pets and have unique personalities, making them one of humanity’s most ancient and beloved animal companions. The event has been celebrated worldwide by numerous animal welfare groups and charities taking part yearly.

How can you celebrate cats?

  • If you already have a feline companion, spoil them with a new toy or special treat!
  • Visit a local shelter and enquire about ways to help their work - this can be volunteering or just spreading awareness!
  • Consider donating to cat welfare organisations.
  • If you’ve been looking to get a new furry companion, research your options and adopt a kitten from the local rescue.
  • Create a fun DIY project for your kitten in order to show them some love!

How is Buy Rope supporting cats?

Buy Rope is dedicated to helping those in need. This is the second year they organise a fundraising event for International Cat Day, but they have several charity events throughout the year, supporting different causes. They also have an ongoing partnership with a cat rescue called Life4Cats, to whom they make a donation for every review they receive. You can read more about the charity work they do here: https://www.buyrope.co.uk/our-causes/

Buy rope stocks a large range of ropes which are perfect for home DIY projects for you and your cat to enjoy. We love their DIY cactus scratching post idea which is made using drainpipes and sisal rope.
